ZEISS larger format history
ZEISS has shaped medium format photography for decades through lenses for systems like Pentacon Six, the legendary Hasselblad 500 series, the innovative Contax 645 and more. Renowned for their beautiful image rendering, ZEISS has continually advanced optical design, lens coatings, and precision manufacturing for large image circles. ZEISS benefits from this deep experience in controlling aberrations, color, and bokeh at medium format scale to create beautiful lenses for the modern 65 mm cinema format, delivering a distinctive, emotionally engaging look that meets the most demanding standards in premium large format cinematography.
The 65mm sensor playground
With their 59.9mm image circle, ZEISS Panoptes 65 lenses cover contemporary and future large format cameras including the ARRI Alexa 265, Blackmagic Design URSA Cine 17K 65, and Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55.
Mastery and control over the image
ZEISS Panoptes 65 lenses feature a well-balanced optical character with precise rendering, high resolution, smooth contrast, natural color, forgiving skin textures, gentle focus fall-off and a silky bokeh. Distortion and chromatic aberration are minimized.
Comprehensive, fast and consistent
All ten Panoptes 65 focal lengths from 25mm to 180mm feature a fast T-stop of T2.2. The lenses strike the perfect balance between speed and functionality, maintaining exceptional image quality even wide open.
High-end ergonomics
Panoptes 65 lenses are engineered with professional workflows in mind. They feature a housing design with consistent positions for iris and focus along with standardized front diameters of 95mm (35, 40, 45, 55, 70, 90, 110, 135) and 114mm (25, 180).This uniformity streamlines the on-set experience, reducing time spent on adjustments and increasing overall efficiency during production.
Full lens data and CinCraft support
Panoptes 65 lenses are equipped with the ZEISS eXtended Data technology, providing frame-by-frame data on lens vignetting and distortion in addition to the standard metedata provided using the Cooke /i technology protocol.
On top, they are fully integrated into the ZEISS CinCraft ecosystem, supporting efficient workflows for visual effects, camera tracking, and visual production.
Automatic transfer of scales and depth of field
Like other modern ZEISS lenses, Panoptes 65 automatically transfer information about lens scales and depth of field to ARRI Hi-5 and WCU-4 hand units when using ARRI cameras and ARRI LCS.
This eliminates the need for camera assistans to manually calibrate their lenses, saving valuable time and effort on set.
