With a range from 24mm to 180mm these lightweight Thalia lenses include what CW Sonderoptic calls a unique always-round iris design for a smooth, distinct bokeh which is full of character. Although these are not vintage glass elements they can pair well with digital sensors. The manufacturer labels them as smooth and clear without being overly sharp.

Image Circle

Leica Thalia lenses offer a large image circle which covers sensors up to the ARRI ALEXA 65, but can be used to create stunning images on VistaVision, Super 35 sensors, and film stocks as well.

Analog Look

Although the Thalia primes incorporate new technologies and materials, they offer image characteristics which that have driven cinematographers to pair older lenses with digital sensors. They are clear without being overly sharp. Focus is smooth and forgiving without looking soft. Skin tones are natural and smooth with accurate color rendition.

Dimensionality

Images captured with the Leica Thalia lenses can appear to have an added depth and dimensionality, especially on larger sensors, due to a gradual focus fall off curve. Rather than even, flat layers of focus across the frame, Thalia lenses produce a slight curve which can make an image pop, because it is simultaneously more consistent with human vision and yet different from most images created with modern lenses.

Always Round Iris

The innovative iris design of a Leica Thalia lens maintains a circular iris through all aperture stops. This produces a cinematic bokeh which comes alive with character. Out-of-focus elements maintain their structure, which further adds to the sense of dimensionality in the image.
