What is very important to note is the great difference between both movies, while one is a nostalgic film reminiscent of another era, the other is a present day film with cutting edge effects. Although a small part of Gravity was shot on film mainly for the panoramic scenes, 12 Years Slave was solely shot on film, an ode to this magical median which contrary to popular belief, is not dead…yet.
At this point we would also like to note the extraordinary bond of our industry which seldom, and unfortunately under the worst of circumstances, emerges and makes itself present in the most dynamic of ways. The tragic loss of Sarah Jones kindled this amazing bond within our industry, with an honorable mention during the Academy Awards but most importantly with the 64.075 Facebook “likes” from all over the world. ‘Slates for Sarah’, which we find an amazing initiative, proved to us all that no matter how different we all are, from were we are and what and how we do it, in this magical industry we are all family.
