CW Sonderoptic announcing that Leica Thalia Lenses with ARRI LPL Mount is coming Soon
The Leica Thalia large format cine lenses will soon be available in ARRI’s new LPL mount. Currently available in PL and ARRI XPL mounts, manufacturer CW Sonderoptic is introducing the new mount for compatibility with ARRI’s Alexa LF camera.
“The Leica Thalia lenses are the only set of lenses that anyone can own and that can cover any and all current digital formats,” said Gerhard Baier, Managing Director of CW Sonderoptic. “It only makes sense that we would support this new lens mount from ARRI.”
The LPL mount versions of the Leica Thalia lenses will include electronics for metadata and will be swappable on existing PL or XPL lenses.
“The idea,” said Seth Emmons, Director of Communications, “is to maintain the Thalia’s already future-proof performance. By supporting LPL we are showing our customers that these lenses are going to be ready to work on every camera in their inventory.”
The LPL mounts are expected to start shipping in Q3 2018 with prices yet to be determined.

Leica M 0.8 Lenses: ARRI and SONY Mounts and New Focal Lengths
NEW MOUNTS
The Leica M 0.8 lenses are expanding their camera compatibility with interchangeable M mounts for ARRI’s Alexa Mini and Amira cameras as well as the SONY Venice FF camera. CW Sonderoptic GmbH, manufacturer of the Leica cine lenses and sister company to Leica Camera, are uniquely positioned to bring this creative opportunity to cinematographers.
“For decades cinematographers have dreamed of being able to bring the iconic look of Leica M lenses to their moving picture work,” said Gerhard Baier, Managing Director of CW Sonderoptic. “Expanding access for the M 0.8 series to Sony and ARRI cameras offers more choices to an industry of artists that thrives on choice and options. There is nothing like the M 0.8 lenses on the market today.”
The Leica M Mount for ARRI Alexa Mini / Amira cameras is available now. The mount can be swapped out just like the PL and EF mounts. Cameras require a one-time hardware replacement of the cover-glass frame and front cover to provide room for the rear of the optics before use. This service can be done by ARRI Service or by personnel who have completed ARRI’s Advanced Service Training.
NEW LENSES
The family of Leica M 0.8 lenses is growing with the addition of three new focal lengths: 50mm f/1.4, 75mm f/2.0, and 90mm f/2.0. They join the previous five M 0.8 lenses: 21mm f/1.4, 24mm f/1.4, 28mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux. The three new lenses are expected to begin delivering in Summer 2018 with pricing to be determined.
“From the beginning we thought of expanding the M 0.8 line with longer focal lengths and the feedback from the market echoed that,” said Seth Emmons, Director of Communications. “We’re very happy with the set as it looks now. It’s small, super-fast, and full of character. We’ve already seen a number of great commercial projects as well as two feature films shot in France that will be coming out soon. The images are as striking as you would expect from classic Leica optics.”
The eight Leica M 0.8 lenses can currently be used on all RED cameras with interchangeable OLPFs, including the Monstro 8K sensor, when using a custom CW Sonderoptic OLPF. The lenses can also be used on the ARRI Alexa Mini and ARRI Amira with the new M mount, which is available now. The M Mount for Sony Venice will be available in Summer 2018.

ARRI introduces new ARRISCAN XT
With improved image quality, faster scanning speed, and ARRI’s tried and tested technology, the new ARRISCAN XT enters the race to save historical archive film.
In hundreds of archives around the world, reels of film, some more than a century old, lie deteriorating. ARRI’s new digitizing system, the ARRISCAN XT, is now able to play a key part in saving those films for future generations.
The ARRISCAN XT builds on the achievements of the ARRISCAN and ARRILASER, which in recent years have set industry standards for digital postproduction. In cooperation with film archives and restoration specialists worldwide, ARRI has applied this range of cutting-edge technologies for digitizing and remastering old and often damaged and fragile film.
ARRI’s ALEXA XT sensor gives the new ARRISCAN XT improved overall image quality, and its scanning speed is up to 65% faster than its predecessor.
Badly damaged material can be worked on using a computerized intermitted frame-by-frame film transport system.
The diffuse, high-power LED illumination of the ARRISCAN XT reduces the visibility of scratches and does not produce any heat at all—essential when working with highly flammable nitrate film stock.
The Wet Gate system uses a specially developed liquid to conceal scratches and dust.
Developed by ZEISS in cooperation with ARRI, the ARRISCAN XT’s optics—with variable optical magnification—make sharpness-reducing digital resizing of scans unnecessary, even when scanning unusual frame dimensions or shrunken film material.
The ARRISCAN XT takes on existing, tried and tested film restoration technology to a new level of excellence. It is fully compatible with existing ARRISCANs, meaning restorers will be able to upgrade their equipment on-site with the addition of improved software, new features, and updated hardware.

Teradek Announces Bolt XT and LT Zero-Delay Wireless Video Systems
New for NAB 2018, the venerable Teradek Bolt is receiving a massive upgrade with two new lines of zero-delay wireless video systems. Completely reimagined, the new Bolt XT and LT demonstrate the union of form and function, their elegant design incorporating useful features like pass-through battery plates, integrated NATO rail and a dual SDI output. The two new Bolt lines will be 100% compatible with current generation Bolts (500, 1000, 3000, Sidekick2) and will begin shipping May 2018.
Bolt XT
The Bolt XT satisfies the needs of the most discerning professionals, from powerful software tools and rock-solid performance to smart power options and backward compatibility. Available with a maximum range of 500ft, 1000ft, 3000ft, or 10,000ft, the new Bolt XT line offers a professional solution for every budget.
A key feature of the Bolt XT is its backward compatibility with Bolt 500, 1000, 3000, Sidekick II, and 703 Bolt, giving users more flexibility building onto their existing systems or linking with others already on set. Unlike alternative wireless video systems, Bolt XT includes a unique AES 128 encryption algorithm to protect your video footage, ensuring that only authorized receivers can connect to your transmitter.
Each transmitter includes an HDMI, 3G-SDI and looping 3G-SDI output. Receivers feature an HDMI output as well as dual 3G-SDI outputs. While wireless performance is critical on set, so are practical mounting options that ensure optimal performance and a quick set-up. With the Bolt XT line, Teradek has added an integrated NATO rail on the receiver, several 1/4”-20 and 3/8” mounting points, and an ARRI rosette on the transmitter to greatly improve available mounting options.
An all-new aluminum chassis further reduces the size and weight of the Bolt line, with receivers also allowing for integrated pass-through power. Available battery plate accessories include V- or Gold-mount, in addition to bi-directional Sony L-series or Canon LP-E6 plates on the Bolt 500 XT. Teradek has also replaced the internal antennas on the Bolt 500 XT transmitter with an external set to enhance wireless performance when operating in environments with large obstacles or heavy interference.
The Bolt XT, like the previous generation, is multicast capable up to 4 receivers and includes built-in cross conversion and Teradek’s proprietary software utilities, including a manual frequency-selection tool, 3D LUT engine, and a 5GHz spectrum analyzer to keep an eye on interference in your area.
Bolt LT
The Bolt LT takes Teradek’s industry-leading wireless performance and packages it into an affordable, streamlined series of zero-delay wireless video systems. The LT line is available in 500ft. or 1000ft. max-range models, with the LT 500 offering external antennas on the transmitter for enhanced wireless performance.
Not only lighter, but smaller too, the Bolt LT is the essential, no-frills high performance wireless video system. Each transmitter includes a single 3G-SDI or HDMI input with matching looping output, while the receiver includes a single 3G-SDI or HDMI output. Several ⅜” and ¼”-20 mounting points allow Bolt LT to mount seamlessly to any camera rig and integrated bi-directional Sony L-series or Canon LP-E6 pass-through battery plates allow you to power your system far more easily than before.
Existing 3rd-generation Bolt users can rejoice because Teradek designed the Bolt LT to be backward compatible with the Bolt 500, 1000, Sidekick II, and 703 Bolt, as well as the powerful new Bolt XT. This feature makes it easier than ever to build onto existing Bolt systems or plug into others already operating on set.
The Bolt LT also retains critical features from the previous generation, including AES 128 encryption to protect your video feed from prying eyes and multicasting to up to 4 receivers.
