Ruben Östlund's "The Square" Wins Palme d'Or
FORCE MAJEURE (TURIST) director Ruben Östlund's new film THE SQUARE, starring Elisabeth Moss and Dominic West, is this year's Palme d'Or winner.
Ruben Östlund is the second ever Swede to win the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival.
The Square is about a museum director (played by Claes Bang) who is desperate to make a success of his gallery, and stages a new installation called “The Square” to promote it.
The Cinematographer Fredrik Wenzel used ARRI Alexa XT together with Master Prime Lenses to get the look that they wanted.
Swedish director Östlund is best known for his previous film, Force Majeure (Turist), which also addressed the toxic nature of middle-class guilt. Force Majeure previously won the Jury price in the 2014 festival’s Un Certain Regard section.
Last time Sweden won the Palme d’Or was 1992 for the film ”The Good Will” by Bille August
We at Camera Nordic gratulate Ruben Östlund for winning the Cannes 2017 Palme d'Or.
