Canon launches the latest addition to the appreciated Cinema EOS Series – The EOS C200 - A compact and flexible 4k Cinema camera that fits perfectly for many creative applications.
This is the first Cinema EOS camera to support the new Raw Recording format Cinema RAW Light, which provides the same color flexibility as Cinema RAW in a smaller file size. Now, filmmakers can record internally on a CFast 2.0 ™ card.
Canon's newly developed Dual DIGIC DV6 processors enable internal recording of 4k UHD / 50P MP4, 4k DCI RAW, and continuous high-frame rate (HFR) at 120 frames per second without cropping. The development of the Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology and the new LCD touch screen provide consistent auto focus and effective tracking.
Creative capacity
The EOS C200 has Canon's 4k Super 35mm CMOS sensor with an effective pixel of 8.85 MP, and it also includes the newly developed Dual DIGIC DV6 image processors. As a result, the camera can deliver Cinema RAW Light recording in 4k DCI 50P internally to a CFast 2.0 ™ card. And also 4K UHD recording with 150 Mbit/s and 2k or Full HD with 35 Mbit/s to SD card in MP4 format.
The EOS C200 has up to 15-stage dynamic range with Cinema RAW Light and up to 13 steps in MP4 (Canon Log / Log 3) - perfect for capturing details in sharply illuminated areas and shadows.
The camera records both Slow and Fast motion with up to 120 frames per second without cropping in Full HD / MP4 - ideal for anyone who wants to make creative Slow Motion recordings.
The ISO range from 100 to 102 400 ensures excellent performance, even in difficult lighting conditions, for example, when switching quickly between different locations. With the built-in optical gray filters for up to 10 steps, bright light recording is both flexible and comfortable, giving greater control over the depth of field.
Advanced features and ergonomic design
The EOS C200 has an advanced AF system that is reliable and accurate at 4K recording, and on the LCD touch screen, movie makers easily select their objects. If you need to easily switch between multiple objects in a single shot, Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides even auto focus. And the Focus Assist for Manual Focus, Face Recognition with Face Priority and Face-Only options provide more creative focus control.
The EOS C200 weighs only 1.4kg and facilitates handheld shooting for longer movie recordings. The compact size allows the camera to be mounted on a drone or balance ring.
Remote management and ability to transfer files via FTP is via built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet connection and the camera can be used with new and exciting accessories, including Canon's Electronic Searcher EVF-V70.
Cinema RAW Light for next generation workflows
Canon has partnered with several partners to ensure that Cinema RAW Light can be integrated with various softwares. Editing and grading of the Cinema RAW Light video format will therefore be supported by DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design. Editing can be done in Media Composer by Avid Technology, using Canon's RAW Plugin for Avid Media Access. This format can also be processed with Canon's Cinema RAW Development program.
Support for Cinema RAW Light is also planned for Grass Valley's EDIUS Pro editing program in 2017. A future version of Final Cut Pro X from Apple Inc. will also support Canon's Cinema RAW Light and use Canon's RAW Plugin for Final Cut Pro X.
Future upgrade of firmware
Canon's video format XF-AVC will be available through a future firmware upgrade, which is free and scheduled to come in the first half of 2018.
